Melania Trump Delivered a Speech Even with Donald Trump Hovering Ominously Behind Her

Melania Trump joined her husband at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Tuesday evening, channeling the First Lady Barbie that never was. She chose a vibrant pink floral dress by Monique Lhuillier along with a pair of pink Christian Louboutin pumps. Trump has started to stray from her typical deep, solid hues, which seemed to dominate a sizable portion of her wardrobe during her early months as First Lady.


Perhaps she’s becoming more comfortable with her new role, something Donald Trump isn’t pulling off quite so well thus far.

 Trump took the podium at the rally to deliver a short speech before introducing her husband, who paced the stage behind her, occasionally standing directly by her side. It’s unclear why her husband felt the need to hover around his wife during her speech—Barack Obama managed to stand patiently next to Michelle Obama when she would introduce him, as did George W. Bush when Laura Bush did the same—but Melania Trump carried on, speaking up for her husband and his presidency despite having to deal with the feeling of hot breath hitting her back the entire time.

 “As president, my husband will continue to fight each and every day to ensure our security, defend our livelihoods, and rebuild the foundations of fortune that have made the United States the land of opportunity,” she said while Trump nodded and clapped beside her. “Washington has fought him every step of the way, but I know my husband and he will never give up.” Here’s hoping he’s able to give up on at least a few things. Including, but not limited to, invading people’s personal space.
